The Brief
The Belfast Zoo needed to update their website to run with their new brand guidelines and style. A contemporary information-based site was required, emphasising ease of use and navigation. The content for the site can be quite long and detailed, so we needed to break this up with a varied target audience in mind, ranging from corporate sponsors to primary school students.
The Solution
We took the new branding guidelines, developed by our parent group AV Browne and implemented this style across the new website. We also ran a user analysis report concentrating on highlighting the elements and information the user would search for first. We used this information to create a user focused navigation menu pushing the most popular information to the front of the site. The client had also stated the importance of having dynamic information on the homepage. To meet this requirement we developed a CMS section on the top of the homepage, where the client could add in news stories or recent new developments at the Zoo, for example, births, deaths or events. Another major factor which had to be considered when designing the new site was accessibility and we needed to ensure that the design of the website was clear and informative to pass accessibility standards.
The project result has been a very stylish, informative, new online home for Belfast Zoo and all their animals.
